Last week we learned that Facebook reached an agreement to acquire Instagram per billion dollars. The news came as a bomb and surprised everyone. However, it seems Facebook was not the first interested in acquiring the famous application: according to a recent report by the New York Times, Twitter had wanted to buy Instagram.
The NYT reports that Kevin Systrom, Instagram creator, had told associates that he was not interested in selling your application a few months before Zuckerberg's call, and that Instagram had just completed a second round of funding, suggesting that was looking to remain independent.
Instagram Systrom described as a dense network of investors and engineers ultimately help propel Instagram for success. However, with the sale to Facebook, Systrom may have lost an ally: Jack Dorsey, founder of Twitter, who had supported Instagram and had expressed interest to acquire the company above.
According to reports from the circles close to Dorsey, since he learned of the acquisition by Facebook, Dorsey has stopped using the service, even though his company refused to comment officially.
